From placement to each 4-week unit, the process is designed to be straightforward for families and engaging for students.
The model
What a learning pod feels like
A pod combines the structure of a curriculum-based course with the conversational space of a very small class.
Each pod includes 1–4 students and one live online instructor. Lessons are planned in sequence rather than built primarily around that week’s homework. Students are expected to ask questions, respond to prompts, explain ideas, and learn with one another.
Learners who need homework help, test preparation, or another flexible academic focus can choose the separate 1:1 Tutoring service instead of pod placement.

How students may be grouped
Placement is thoughtful, but it is not an admissions test or a promise that a particular pod will be available.
Complete a placement questionnaire
A short questionnaire helps us understand current learning and what kind of pod schedule may be compatible.
Review a possible pod
When a compatible pod is available, families receive the proposed schedule, format, and next enrollment steps.
Begin live classes
Students join their instructor and pod peers for structured, participatory online lessons.
Math grouping may consider course readiness across grades, while science grouping follows grade level. Current understanding, participation needs that can reasonably be supported, and shared availability may also be considered. Final placement details should always be confirmed with the family.

- Join from a quiet learning space a few minutes before class.
- Keep the camera and microphone available for live participation.
- Bring requested materials and be ready to explain your thinking.
- Listen to pod peers and contribute respectfully to discussion.
What if a pod has not filled yet?
A student can remain on the interest list while a compatible pod is forming. Families should receive a clear update about availability and possible timelines. A student may also be offered a smaller starting pod if that option is available and agreed upon. Enrollment is not complete until placement, schedule, and program terms are confirmed.
